The ST. FRANCIS STREET paintings are colorful abstract notations made in charcoal and acrylic paint on heavy art papers. They capture my memories of the front yard steps and approaches to houses in the All Saints neighborhood in Tallahassee, Florida. All the houses had concrete or brick steps leading up from the street and onto a walkway through a swept clay yard to the front porches where everyone met and told stories. Of course, its all changed now. Except for our memories of it, none of the lovely vernacular character of the place exists. These intimate works on paper capture something of the lively spirit of that front porch neighborhood and the stories it holds.
