I've lived all but a few years of my life on the Florida peninsula. The Atlantic coastline, the Everglades and prairies ground my experience. Light, color, space and the land-forms I know are central to my art.
I'm a fourth generation Florida native. My earliest vivid memories are of open sky, cloud forms, and the rhythmic movement of the ocean against the coastline. Growing up in a small beach town, I was free to discover, make images, and wonder at the world. I learned on my own about drawing and the natural elements of visual imagery.
My B.F.A. Degree in Painting is from Florida State University. There, I was fortunate to have studied with a painter whose example of artistic purpose convinced me to follow my intuitions and commit to the life and work of an artist. My M.A. Degree in Sculpture and my M.F.A. Degree in Intermedia are both from the University of Iowa.
Settling in Miami, I pursued a career in teaching. I worked for four decades developing art curricula, and directing and teaching in art programs for talented students, while simultaneously pursuing my own painting. In those years I showed my work regularly in group exhibitions and sold work through gallery representation.
There are now three generations of my family living together in our home in Miami where my studio is also located. It is enormously pleasing to have my life and my work so beautifully entwined.
My paintings are in private and corporate collections and in the collection of the University of South Florida School of Medicine.
